IN RESPONSE TO ST ARTICLE ON THE SA/ACS(I) RUGBY BRAWL
Rugby post-match brawl made ST HEADLINES! There must not be many newsworthy items, eh?
I hope this forum poster actually sent this 'letter' to ST.
And I also hope this forum poster was from neither acs(i) nor sas. (in his own words)
Undoubtedly, the ST article gave a less than satisfactory answer to WHAT provoked the fight?
Due to this lack of disclosure, it looked as if the sa player got emotional and threw the first punch. Was that REALLY the case? Readers wouldn't know unless we were there.
It wouldn't be completely fair to accuse the journalist of being biased towards acs(i) because the information obtained was probably dealt with as objectively as possible. There were possibly key facts that the interviewees chose to leave out and journalists typically don't carry around lie detector kits.
Let's give our journalists the benefit of the doubt. Some, might still be 'interning' as I've gathered from a recent report from someone who added me to facebook a couple of years ago.
In a game, the pressure is on the referee to make the correct judgment. At times, they fall short of crowd expectations and that's when things get not so pretty.
In case, you think I am not independent, I am female and hence cannot be from either schools. D'oh.
P.S Needless to say there are those who feel that the scuffle was understandable due to blahblahblah reasons and those who think it's plain wrong. I don't condone fighting but I recognise that not everyone is fully in control of their emotions. For people to simply write off the ones involved as being dumb, unsporting (etc), I don't really think much of you too. Be objective, don't insult.
